TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM OF THE WORLD(tm)

(tm)

MINIATURE WORLD OF TRAINS®
MODEL BUILDING COMMITTEE

MODEL BUILDING STANDARDS

1. All structures are to be capable of being lit, with no light leaks or glowing.

  1. Building Interior Lighting shall be installed to allow for bulb changes from underneath the building, to provide for "NO building removal from the exhibit for bulb changes".

Examples - This can be accomplished by sliding lighting thru a tube to the desired room level and holding position with an elastic banding or compartmentalize rooms in a building to simulate room light being turned on and off.

  1. Windows shall contain some form of detail capable of being backlit. Some windows are to be blanked from behind the detail so all windows are not lit.

  2. Structures are to have internal baffles to prevent "see-thru" buildings.

  3. Windows shall have clear plastic glazing. No ‘fogging’ of window glass.

  4. All structures are to have light dry-brushed weathering to bring out details. Heavy weathering or pristine structures are not desired, unless the specific use of the structure requires it. Director Of Modeling approval required

  5. All structures are to have a flat, uniform finish, unless the use of the structure requires otherwise. Decals and other glossy surfaces may be overstayed with dullcote.

  6. All structure seams are to be neatly adhered with the recommended adhesive for the material being adhered. Use sufficient adhesive to provide a strong bond, but not so much as to be visible or ooze out of joints.

  7. Structures constructed of wood, cardboard or other soft material must be suitably braced to prevent warping.

  8. Structures are to look realistic. However, originality and additional detail is encouraged, however, in moderation. We’d like our structures to "tell a story.

  9. Kit bashing  and custom buildings to model a specific scene, are encouraged such as the Greenville Southern Railway Station, BMW Plant, GE Greenville, etc. Director Of Modeling approval required

  10. Any suggestion for a model in a specific scene or era should be brought to the attention of the Director Of Modeling . Approval required

  11. Reimbursement for personal materials used for MWOT building is acceptable with prior Director Of Modeling approval required.

Director Of Model Building - Ed Krech
